Art Hub Australia wants to invite you to join our first art and craft festival at the Marrickville town hall in June 2011 because we really like your lovely products!
Who we are
AHA is a centre for Australian local independent artists. We are aiming to create a community for local artists and the local public so that we can increase the awareness of local designs in the inner western suburbs.
What we do AHA is not a market. It’s an ongoing art and craft festival that allows our local artists to showcase their art works to the local community. It is a platform for artists to interact with the local community. It gives the opportunities for the local community to understand and appreciate local designs. Due to the highly commercialized markets in Sydney eastern suburbs, AHA is aiming to provide an affordable space for local artists and to eliminate non -art and craft competitions.
Event details
The festival will be held at Marrickville Town Hall on the 18th June, 2011 from 10am to 5pm. It is located at 303 Marrickville Road, Marrickville, 2204. It is a 10 minutes walk from Marrickville station or buses 423, L23. 425 and 426 can be taken stopping directly in front of the location. This is an indoor event.
Artists will be given a space approximately 2m x 2m to set up their stalls. The set up is subject to approval, however we are trying to give as much flexibility as we can. In order to increase the understanding of arts and craft of the community, each artist will be allocated 15 to 30 minutes for a small workshop to demonstrate their work or hold small tutorials during the event. You are free to teach children and adults small DIY project and/or you can demonstrate your work to the public. How you organize this timeframe is up to you.
Stall fees: $80
Included:
• 210cm x 75cm table
• Chairs
• Power outlet (on request)
• insurance
• AHAzine: AHAzine is a mini magazine that included artists profile and workshop timetable. It also includes writings and illustrations from individual artists.
• Marketing and advertising: We will be sending out AHAzine to local papers, cafes, magazines such as Frankie and Real Living, art supplies shops, universities, etc.
• EFPOS facility
• Blog and website : Each artist will be featured at our main sponsor MIAO (www.miao.com.au) website and blog. Artists are allowed to list 3 of their items on MIAO online shop for free.
AHAzine
AHAzine is a mini coloured printed magazine measuring 210mm x 148mm. Each artist will be allocated one full page in AHAzine. It’s up to the artists what they want to write on their page. You can write about your profile, display photos of your work or even a DIY tutorial. This page will represent how you want the public see you. For artists not selected for this festival, you can still contribute to the zine, you can either write, draw or submit photos. Please contact me for more details.
(Since we have to print and deliver AHAzine to the general public, the earlier you confirm your stall with us the better it is for us to organize the zine and for you to have a confirmed article in the zine. This event is first in first serve.)
AHA show bag
AHA is organizing a limited edition show bag which contains 2 to 3 handmade works from artists, name cards or flyers from all artists and AHAzine. Show bags will be distribute to magazine publishers and local papers, and we are planning to sell it at AUD$25 on the day.
Please note:
• Stall can be shared between designers, however zine articles must also be shared in conjunction.
• In cases where designers are unable to attend the festival, your stock can be sold by our representatives, however there will be a 20% commissions charge of your sales.
• We are looking for originality and high quality local designs, whether you have market experience or retail stocklists will NOT affect the application result.
• We are not accepting vintage sellers for ANY of the event unless artists can prove/show that they have altered the goods by themselves.
• The whole event is indoor but we’ll have sign outside the venue. There WILL NOT be stalls outdoor. I am planning to do this monthly, so there will be one in July and August as well. The venue is confirmed, once you put in an application and photos, i’ll just need to put everything on file and send you a participants agreement, your application is not confirmed until payment received. I am expecting 30 to 40 artists.
• I do encourage artists to demonstrate or to explain how-things-are-done during the event, the main reason for doing a workshop/demonstration is to let artists have a chance to interact with customers/ local community, so that people can understand what we’re doing and appreciate local designs. The workshop will be held at your stall, you don’t need to let people do anything, they can just come and listen and watch. I personally think it’s better if they come to your stall because they can look at your products as well.
If you have further question about the event application or the zine, please feel free to contact me at suki@miao.com.au, and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
