UPPERCASE – Work/life 2

blog06072011

Work/Life 2 is such a great book! I reckon all illustrators/ artists should have a copy of the book. It has stories from illustrators around the world, although all the reviews are short, the theme or I should say the message is very clear, we’re all trying our best to make our dreams come true. Really really love it. Great read!

You can buy the book directly from this great publisher UPPERCASE, really love their works!!!

To market, to market

“The markets gave us direction and taught us to sell and relate to the customer – it also taught us that lots of small customers are better than a few big ones. ”

Some high-profile businesses reveal how their market beginnings helped them launch into the big time.

It’s a little-known fact that distinctive Australian resin jewellery and homeware business Dinosaur Designs didn’t start out primarily as a jewellery designer. The business began at Sydney’s Paddington Markets as a fashion label, and made jewellery on the side to accessorise its clothes.

Alexandra Cain from The Age has written a very inspirational article about how small labels turn into giant brand .To read the full article, please click here.

Uniqlo

Don’t know how many of you have heard of the Japanese Clothing Retail chain Uniqlo. It’s a very cool brand with quality and affordable clothing. It’s a shame that you couldn’t find it in Australia. I recently fell in love with their introductory site which is like a showcase of all their products. They are just eye candies and very inspirational to look at!

Dotti Anglel

US based British Artists Tif is the master mind behind Dottie Angel. Her beautiful works are full of vintage fabrics, floral, fun, colour and style! Her photos are such eye candies. I couldn’t stop looking again and again!

The good news is Dottie angel is publishing their photos journals book in this summer and you can pre order it at Uppercase.

New Year Wish List!

It’s new year again! I can’t believe it’s 2011 already. If 2012 is the end of the world then we still have one year to go! Oh no… anyway, even if tomorrow is the end of the world we still have to look at some beautiful designs, don’t we?

rain rain rain

It’s been raining so bad this year, especially the last six months. It just feels like living in London or something. The storm weather makes it so hard to do anything after work or for the weekend. It feels like we’re having a winter for the whole year.

something that I really want…

What are you going to draw with 500 color pencils?

Felissimo from Japan has really really beautiful ideas about color pencils! The idea is to send you 25 color pencils every month for 20 months and after 20 months, you’ll have 500 color pencils! How cool is that!!

“It gives you new focus as an artist, working with color families and feeling the precious nature of each pencil. We send 25 pencils a month, crafted to order. As you build to 500, the pencils become your story and experience. It’s about enjoying an unhurried creative process, and the artist – that over time – you become.”

Oh my… really love the idea….
